Modern Texas Redbacks - The Gold Notes of Texas
The original Texas “redbacks” were promissory notes issued by the Republic of Texas between 1839 and 1840. The notes earned their nickname from the iconic red lone star surrounded by T-E-X-A-S that appeared on the reverse of each note.History tells us the original redback became “worth less than the paper it was printed on.” The Modern Redback avoids that problem by introducing a series of 24K commemorative gold notes inspired by the original design, each of which contains a precise and verifiable layer pure gold deposited onto a durable polymer substrate.
The 2025 Modern Texas Redback Gold Notes are issued in 5, 20 and 100 centigram weights. Learn more about the notes below.
The obverse of each weight will feature an iconic image.
*Note that Modern Redbacks are introduced for commemorative purposes only and are not legal tender in the United States or any foreign country.
